A NEW integrated step and tow bar system has been launched for vans, designed by McNicholas and specialist engineer Hope Technical Developments.

The assembly provides a completely clear step right across the width of the van with the tow bar, for a trailer or other plant and equipment, attaching underneath. The arrangement keeps the towing point as close to the rear axle as possible, minimising the leverage forces on the vehicle.

McNicholas uses Ford Transit vans on its contracts where operatives are stepping in and out of the vehicles all day. The company identified a number of drawbacks to existing assemblies where safety is compromised if tow bars are attached directly on to the steps or where sometimes towing forces on the vehicles can be unacceptable.

McNicholas sought a bespoke solution that would suit its requirements in the field.
