SAFETY issues surrounding drivers’ eyesight are covered in a free information pack being offered to fleets.

The Driver Eyesight pack, produced by the Fleet Safety Forum, a division of road safety charity Brake, in association with Specsavers Opticians, outlines the importance of introducing and maintaining an effective policy on eyesight testing.

It contains an information sheet for fleet managers and a poster and advice sheet for drivers, highlighting the dangers of poor eyesight and offering practical advice on detecting eyesight problems.

Jools Townsend, head of education at Brake, said: ‘It is deeply concerning that so many drivers are failing to meet legal requirements relating to eyesight.

‘That is why we are calling on fleet managers to introduce eye-testing procedures and raise awareness about the importance of good eyesight, with the help of this information pack.

‘It’s vital that drivers can see where they are going if we want to prevent the nine deaths and 89 serious injuries that happen on our roads every day.’
