ROSS Harris, fleet manager, Cattles.

How have the first three months in your new job been?

Busy and challenging. I have been aided by some excellent colleagues and suppliers.

How different is it to your last role?

This role covers a larger fleet and there is more strategic planning. It is mainly a user-chooser fleet that has different challenges to the mainly-LCV fleet I ran previously.

How is the industry changing?

There is a greater emphasis on health and safety in fleet matters. Vehicle safety is constantly improving. Recruitment difficulties are dictating vehicle choice lists and suppliers have to provide better information to fleets.

What is an average day for you?

Dealing with specific driver or car issues, implementing new procedures and meeting suppliers.

If you were transport minister what would you change?

I would introduce a roadworks tsar. This would be one office where all requests for roadworks are vetted and scheduled.
