Careers: how are you settling in?

Gil Kelly, director & general manager, Carillion Fleet Management

  • How was your first day?

It involved the usual health and safety inductions and being shown around the office to find out the really important things like where to make coffee.

  • Has it been plain sailing so far?

Everyone has made me feel welcome and the team are very helpful so there have been no major hiccups so far.

  • What challenges have you faced?

I’ve very quickly become involved in a hands-on way with setting the budgets and business plan.

  • How does it compare to your previous role of director of sales and marketing at Lex?

Although Carillion has a smaller fleet size, the needs of the customer are very similar.

  • How do you remain motivated at work?

My drive comes from ensuring we meet our objectives, deliver great customer satisfaction and maintain good relationships with suppliers and the team.

  • How do you relax at weekends?

Relax is the wrong word as I’ve got three young daughters who take up a lot of my time.
