ALD Automotive claims its new policy of fitting security equipment to all new vehicles supplied is proving successful after a stolen Audi A3 was recovered by the police.

Vehicles are fitted with the ProFleet2 system which enables police to track them using a SIM card fitted to a unit inside the vehicle. More than 11,000 vehicles on ALD’s fleet have the technology.

Detective Constable Sharon Starkey, of British Transport Police, Birmingham, said: ‘It is probable that without the device the vehicle may never have been recovered. It is evident that if more vehicles were fitted with similar devices more would be recovered.’
