Doubt cast on speed cameras

A BBC news programme obtained police documents that revealed half of fixed speed cameras in two Essex and Hertfordshire were faulty.

It has led to fears that thousands of motorists may have been unfairly prosecuted.

Paul Smith, founder of the Safe Speed road safety campaign, said: ‘This information casts serious doubts on the safety of evidence from thousands of cameras used against hundreds of thousands of motorists.’
