Spyshot: BMW hatches new niche

WORKING on the theory that you can never have too many niche vehicle offerings, BMW is working on two new SACs – that’s sports activity coupes.

The car seen here is the new X6, essentially an X5 SUV with a coupe-like body. It goes on sale next spring and will be followed in a couple of years’ time by the X4 – a similar model based on the smaller X3.

The X6 will use the chassis and engines from the X5, although it will only offer four seats. As the inset picture shows, the rear roof line drops down dramatically, indicating rear space and luggage room will not be as generous as in the X5.
