A prosthetic arm in the boot and X-rays are some of the more unusual items left behind in rental cars.

Research carried out by rental company Avis found that the most common items left in its vehicles include CDs, cameras, glasses, photographs and children’s toys.

Some of the larger ‘left behinds’ were shoes and clothes. Other surprise items were X-rays and a sock filled with £1 coins.

Xavier Vallee, head of marketing, Avis UK said: “As we enter the start of our busiest rental season we thought it would be an ideal time to check in with our operations team to find out what sort of things they unearth when our cars are returned. With what has come to light in our survey, they’ve certainly had a few surprises.”
