Alison Harding, fleet administrator, BBT Thermo-technology

  • How many vehicles are you responsible for and how are they funded?

Currently 550, 350 of which are light commercials. They are all contract hire except for a few specialist vehicles which we own outright.

  • What are you working on at the moment?

Reducing our daily rental and accident costs – and the small matter of changing 60 drivers into new vans between now and summer.

  • What’s been the greatest challenge you have faced in your career?

Communicating new legislation effectively to such a diverse group of people.

  • What motivates you in a morning?

My colleagues – I work in a small team and I also love the variety of this job.

  • What is the most memorable piece of advice you have been given?

“Measure three times, cut once” – this advice can be applied to all kinds of situations. Basically it’s “look before you leap”.

  • What are you reading at the moment?

The last book I read was Blood, Sweat and Tea, by a London ambulance technician about his experiences.
