With a sale to Indian carmaker Tata all but certain, Land Rover unveiled its LRX concept at the Detroit Auto Show.

If the new owners give the go ahead, the LRX is likely to form the basis for Land Rover’s new entry model compact off-roader, probably called the LR1.

The three-door car packs a 2.0-litre diesel engine that emits just 120g/km of CO2, thanks to a hybrid system that uses electric power to drive the rear wheels. However, mechanical power is retained to all four wheels.
