BMW has confirmed that a convertible version of its M3 will be launched in April.

The third M3 derivative will be the first M car to have a folding hard top, and will feature an optional seven-speed, double clutch transmission.

BMW says the M DCT gearbox will improve the car’s acceleration and reduce emissions and fuel consumption.

The car itself is powered by a 4-litre V8 engine with 420bhp and will hit 62mph from zero in 5.3 seconds with a manual gearbox or 5.1 seconds with the new seven-speed ‘box.

The M3 Convertible will cost £54,655 while the M DCT Gearbox will be priced at £2,590.
