How are you settling in? Paul Ryley, National CV sales manager AkzoNobel

How does your new role differ from your last job?

I’m now responsible for a team of 14 sales and technical staff.

In addition, I have a large financial responsibility to maintain budgets, ensure sales targets are reached and to keep good working relationships with key accounts.

How is the commercial vehicle market changing?

The price of oil has definitely impacted on the CV market. Rising costs mean that many haulage firms are struggling to make a profit.

What has been your greatest challenge in the role so far?

Managing and motivating such a large team has been challenging, but rewarding.

Prior to this job, I’d managed only two people before, so it’s been a good learning curve for me.

What has been your greatest achievement?

I’ve been able to continue growth for the business, which hasn’t been easy in the current economic climate.

How do you relax at the weekend?

My family come first and there’s always something going on, but I’m also keen on fishing and shooting.
