Describe your fleet.
We have 1,400 vehicles in all: 1,200 mixed badge cars, 100 3.5-tonne vans and another 100 LCVs as well as six motorbikes.

How did you get into fleet?
I started off as a mechanic doing an apprenticeship. I then moved to a dealership where I started working with fleet managers. I worked in contract hire for a while and then moved over to fleet.

What do you most enjoy about the role?
When manufacturers ask for input into new products and you get a pre-launch view of new cars.

Any your least favourite aspect?
Dealing with drivers and driver non-compliance – I could go on all day about it.

What have you been working on recently?
We’re just completing a fleet tender for the supply
of new vehicles. However, 2007 was a busy year. It was all about greening the fleet, lowering emissions and introducing a driver incentive scheme.

What would be your ideal weekend?
Racing a saloon car on any circuit.
