Big car U-turn on CO2 emissions

The German newspaper Handelsblatt reports that EU environment commissioner Stavros Dimas has accepted that large car manufacturers may enjoy lower CO2 reduction targets than companies making smaller cars.

Dimas had resisted this idea by looking for more equal contributions to the EU’s CO2 average target of 120g/km by 2012.

Agreement “is up to member states”, said Dimas.
