Unsafe lorries

There has been a huge increase in the number of unroadworthy foreign lorries entering the UK over the past three years.

In 2005-06 5,369 foreign HGVs were found to be unfit. In 2007-08 that figure rose to 15,009.

The vehicles were banned from being used until the defects were rectified.
