GE Capital saved its UK clients £24 million during 2009 within total savings of £69 million across Europe (€76 million) through its Key Solutions consultancy team.

Savings were made by examining all elements of fleet mix from contract extensions to CO2 emissions.

The Key Solutions team is a sales independent consultancy, and GE Capital claims its pan-European customer base implemented 47 per cent of savings identified by the end of 2009.

Across Europe, £20 million of savings were made through analysing contract length, advising on contract extension opportunities and advising on the most cost-effective model.

GE Capital highlighted £8 million is savings through ranking cars in total cost of ownership, with almost £7 million found through car-sourcing advice driven by OEM and dealer concentration.

Savings of more than £6 million were identified through implementing a CO2 capping policy through insight into fuel consumption costs and advice on tax issues relating to CO2 emissions.

Peter Stroem, pan-European fleet commercial leader at GE Capital, said: “Using our experience and heritage in the fleet industry, we have created an opportunity to take $100 million (£69 million) cost out of our customers’ total fleet cost, freeing up capital to invest in their core business and use in their day to day operations.
“For our pan-European customers almost 50% of those savings have already been implemented, which shows just how important this consultancy service is in today’s challenging economic environment.
“It should be possible for all companies to reduce fleet cost, but not lower their quality of service.”
