Peugeot is attempting to woo more fleets to its dealers’ doors by significantly increasing its van and car rental business.

It says fleets will be attracted to renting its vehicles thanks to its range of low-emission vehicles and because the vehicles will be maintained by dealer technicians rather than rental company employees.

The initiative means fleets will be able to rent Peugeot vehicles at a greater number of dealers.

Currently some 100 Peugeot dealers offer vehicle rental to local businesses, this number, says Peugeot, is expected to rise by 33%.

“These will be established where the business need in the marketplace exists to sustain and compliment a dealer’s current business sales,” said a Peugeot spokesman.

“What is significant is the potential business growth from having the ability to offer a full spectrum of mobility solutions to fleet and business customers.”

The Peugeot vehicles will range in age from nine to 18 months, making them considerably newer than many vehicles currently available from non-dealer rental companies.

Despite this renewed focus on offering Peugeot vehicles for rent, the manufacturer said it will not increase the number of cars it puts into short-term rental.

Fleets using the Peugeot rental service will also see benefit from a more efficient and simpler reservations system after Peugeot formed a partnership with rental specialist, Nexus Vehicle Management, which will see Nexus manage the rental programme.

“Peugeot dealerships have a great opportunity to provide rental services to their local markets but need the tools and expertise to do this,” said the spokesman.

“We, therefore, aim to increase the number of locations operating the rental programme. We also see this initiative giving us renewed focus on rental sales at a national level.”
