Thrifty Car & Van Rental has been re-appointed as primary flexible fleet supplier to Thames Valley Police.

Thames Valley Police is the lead force for Chiltern Transport Consortium (CTC) serving Bedfordshire Police, Civil Nuclear Constabulary, Hertfordshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police.

The four-year contract will see Thrifty Car & Van Rental meet the Consortium Forces’ peak company vehicle demands.

The CTC Forces often requires cars, LCVs and people carriers for operational activities. In such situations, it is not viable to use marked police cars for non-emergency use and using Thrifty’s services on a flexible basis helps the organisation to keep operational costs down as it eliminates having additional vehicles on the permanent fleet.

The contract was awarded following a procurement process.

Ian Godolphin, head of Chiltern Transport Consortium from Thames Valley Police explains: “A significant proportion of our vehicle use is reactive. We identified that it is more cost effective for us to hire a car or van where it is needed from one day up to 90 days, rather than purchasing outright or taking them on long-term contract hire.

“We have appointed Thrifty Car & Van Rental as our primary supplier as the company fulfilled our stringent criteria. Being a police force, it is vital that any hire vehicles are well maintained and presented to uphold our image and ensure the safety of our staff and the public. Thrifty’s professional approach, the high standards of their vehicles and resilience to meet demand at short notice, were all factors in our decision.”
