Every year, Brake picks a theme for Road Safety Week. Communities, schools and organisations taking part in the Week can choose to run their initiative on this theme or any other road safety topic, according to what's most relevant.

The theme for Road Safety Week 2011 is "Too young to die". Brake will be raising awareness of the fact that road crashes are sudden, violent events that rip apart families by ending lives too soon, and causing life-changing injuries, leading to terrible suffering.

During the Week, Brake will be appealing to young people, drivers of all ages, parents, the wider community, and policy makers to work together and act now to put a stop to loss of young lives on UK roads.

To help raise awareness, Brake will be releasing research findings into the views and behaviour of young people on roads, working with families who have been affected by road death and injury to speak out for road safety, and promoting community road safety activities throughout the UK.
