A cleaning and hygiene specialist has revealed how fleet management technology is set to reduce its distribution costs by £90,000 in just 12 months.

Zenith Hygiene Group has slashed fuel costs across its 119 vehicle fleet after installing TomTom’s WORKsmart – Eco solution. It has achieved this whilst maintaining between 22,000 and 24,000 deliveries per month.

“We are always striving to maximise business efficiencies but those delivered by TomTom’s system have been a revelation,” said Michael Rayner (pictured), Zenith Hygiene Group’s operations director.

“Average vehicle mpg has soared from 26 to 43 in just four months and a reduction of fuel usage by up to 5,000 litres per month, resulting in significant savings in distribution costs. The carbon foot print has reduced by 33lbs per day to 24lbs per day, a significant boost to our green credentials.”

Zenith Hygiene Group installed TomTom’s tracking, navigation and EcoPlus devices across its fleet, which includes 56 company cars and 63 trucks, in June 2011.

It has since been able to improve vehicle routing and the deployment of its mobile workforce to customers – leading to a significant increase in its (OTIF) delivery performance and an increase in customer satisfaction.

In addition the monitoring of driver performance, by both managers and drivers alike, has dramatically reduced incidents of speeding, idling, harsh braking and other such efficiency failings.

Giles Margerison, TomTom Business Solutions’ director, UK & Ireland, said: “Zenith’s returns on investment, both financial and service level, highlight the considerable benefits to business that advanced fleet management technology can deliver.”
