Npower has confirmed plans to launch Britain’s first bespoke electric vehicle (EV) tariff.

Rob Harper, group project manager at Npower, said: “We are considering all options for the tariff, but our main aim is to match the usage for charging the vehicle from renewable sources and to make it as affordable as possible. We hope to make the tariff available to consumers during the summer.”

According to experts, the British motor industry is in line to receive a £7billion boost from electric cars between 2011 and 2014. This presumes that approximately 300,000 EVs could be on the road by 2014.

In addition to the new EV tariff, Npower is launching its dedicated EV website www.npower.com/ev where consumers can follow the developments within the energy sector and catch up on the latest news from Npower.
