Elektromotive has been declared Small Business of the Year at the inaugural BusinessGreen Leaders Awards.

The awards celebrate the UK’s top green businesses, executives and thought-leaders, and Brighton-based Elektromotive beat seven other businesses in the Small Business of the Year category. The judges were particularly impressed by the company’s commitment to local manufacturing, its global ambitions, and the cutting-edge technology used in its Elektrobay charging stations installed in locations across the UK and overseas.

“Elektromotive is a prime example of the new breed of green businesses that the UK economy urgently requires if it is to decarbonise,” commented James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen. “The company’s innovative technology, strong management team and impressive ambition make it a worthy winner of the inaugural BusinessGreen Leaders Small Business of the Year award.”

Calvey Taylor-Haw, managing director of Elektromotive, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to have been crowned Small Business of the Year. Elektromotive is still a young company, and this honour is a fitting tribute to the efforts of our small and dedicated team.

“The development of electric vehicles has come on a huge amount in recent years, and the appearance of charging bays across the UK provides a positive sign that substantial reductions in vehicle emissions can soon be achieved,” added Taylor-Haw. “We won’t be resting on our laurels with this award, however, as it remains clear that a great deal of work still needs to be done to convince policymakers, businesses and motorists of the benefits of going electric.”
