ATS Euromaster has fitted cold weather tyres to 300 new Volkswagen vans supplied to British Gas by Hitachi Vehicle Solutions.

The Volkswagen Caddy Maxis had all their tyres replaced as soon as they arrived in the UK to comply with British Gas’s new cold weather tyre policy ensuring their fleet of vans stay safe and mobile throughout the winter.

Group sales director at ATS Euromaster, Peter Fairlie said: “We agreed a deal to buy back the existing summer fitments and replace them with Michelin Agilis cold weather tyres. This will ensure the vans are fully prepared for the colder months ahead.”

The company is expecting a surge in people replacing their tyres with cold weather tyres later this year, and has doubled the amount of cold weather tyres that they ordered last year, ordering £6 million worth for winter 2011/2012.

Fleet and retail customers will be given a choice of premium, mid-range and lower-cost brands.

Fairlie, added: "We’ll be fitting cold weather tyres in earnest from early October, although we are flexible and can accommodate any customers’ preferred schedule for changing over."
