A similar partnership has been struck between the Driving for Better Business campaign and the Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership.

It was awarded a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for its ‘Driving Business Safely – Get a Grip’ campaign this year.

The Get a Grip campaign targets employers in Kent and Medway with regards to their legal obligations in relation to managing occupational road risk and their duty of care to employees and other road users.

It offers resources, including a website, workshops and employee handouts to help businesses understand what they can do to ensure they are within the law, improve their health and safety culture, and benefit from cost savings.

Underlying this is the crucial element of reducing crashes and the number of people killed or seriously injured in collisions involving vehicles being driven for work purposes.

Walsh said: “We’ve developed several partnerships with suppliers such as Greenroad and ARI Fleet UK, and found working with them and their customers very beneficial.”

For example, a group of fleet professionals recently gathered at Rockingham Motor Speedway to be part of ‘The GreenRoad Experience’.

Hosted by Walsh, the agenda included insights into the Ministry of Defence’s Drives project with GreenRoad, the big picture of fleet safety legislation from Mike Appleby, expert at Houseman’s solicitors, and product updates from GreenRoad CEO, Jim Heeger.

There were also roundtable break-out sessions focused around engaging, incentivising and rewarding drivers and implementing fleet policies.

Walsh is hopeful that the roll out of the new ISO standard for road traffic safety management will encourage fleets that haven’t yet become business champions to get involved in the Driving for Better Business campaign.

RoadSafe was a member of the UK committee run by BSI that helped draw up the standard ISO 39001 (Fleet News, November 8).
