SRCL, the Leeds-based healthcare and waste services company, is set to save up to £130k a year following a fleet review undertaken by Lex Autolease.

Lex Autolease, the UK’s largest fleet management provider, reviewed SRCL’s 300-strong fleet of light commercial vehicles and developed a new contract hire and daily rental product to meet the company’s needs.

SRCL provides patient transport, carrier and waste disposal services to hospitals, GPs and private sector healthcare organisations. The tailored product will help the business expand into new market sectors such as courier services, including the bulk transportation of clinical and patient waste.

The savings identified by Lex Autolease include the replacement of a number of ageing vehicles and the removal of unnecessary conversion figures to produce more efficient vehicles.  For example, specifying one rather than two loading doors for new vans saved up to £220 per vehicle, resulting in savings of up to £60,000 across SRCL’s entire commercial fleet.

With SRCL also committed to minimising its carbon footprint, Lex Autolease took a broader look at vehicle usage and whole life costs across the whole fleet and introduced more CO2 efficient vans, including some electric vehicles and hybrids.  These helped SRCL to reduce its carbon footprint while delivering annual fuel savings.

Laurence Mullikin, fleet manager at SRCL said: "Lex Autolease’s industry team of experts undertook a thorough review of our fleet in order to help us achieve significant future cost, time and environmental savings.

"In doing so, Lex Autolease provided an excellent fleet solution for SRCL, introducing a number of CO2 efficient vehicles, including EV LCV’s and hybrid cars, which combined with cheaper lease and conversion costs, along with annual fuel savings, SRCL will save up to £130,000 per year."

Jonathan Ellis, new business senior manager at Lex Autolease said: "We’re still in the early stages of our relationship with SRCL, but we look forward to an on-going partnership where we continue to provide a reliable fleet solution, while working to cut costs and delivering further environmental benefits."
