For the first time the Fleet News Congress event is to feature a mock trial, to show fleets the impact a  court case following a serious accident could have.

The scenario is all too easy to imagine. One of your sales staff makes a call from the car, is distracted and has a major crash. The effects can be devastating, other road users fighting for their lives and senior management in the dock. The penalties and publicity have the potential to destroy both careers and organisations but what is really likely to happen? What would an investigation and a court case involve for employers and risk managers.

In court, John Lawrence JP regularly sees first hand the increasing failures and consequences of individuals and organisations across the UK who haven’t fulfilled their driver risk management obligations. For over 15 years, John also held one of the top fleet positions in the UK as Group Transport Manager at the Co-operative Group, controlling one of the UK’s largest fleets with over 2000 company cars plus grey fleet drivers giving him a unique perspective in this vital area of health and safety.

Chris Green is lead partner of the Midlands regulatory team at national law firm Weightmans LLP. He is one of the UK’s leading health and safety prosecutions lawyers and guides his employer clients through the regulatory investigation process following serious and fatal accidents in work and public places, on road or rail.  Chris specialises in the defence of investigations brought by the Health and Safety Executive and the Police

This Mock Trial is based on a real life incident and will show you how the police investigation will unfold, what is likely to happen in court, and what the likely outcome would be.

Fleet News Congress takes place on October 15, 2013, at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon.
