Mitsubishi has confirmed more than 12,000 orders and more than 8,000 deliveries for its new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid.

Available in some Europen markets from October 2013, 8,197 cars were delivered by the end of December, although 8,009 have been delivered to customers in the Netherlands, with demand fuelled by a generous incentive scheme for plug-in vehicles.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation estimates that Outlander PHEV global production volume will reach approximately 30,000 units by the end of March 2014 since launch in January 2013. Full year capacity will be of more than 50,000 units, with Europe its largest market.

The car, which has CO2 emissions of 44g/km, is eligible for the £5,000 plug-in car grant in the UK and can be registered for a full discount on the London congestion charge, will arrive in the UK this spring, expected to be priced at around £40,000.
