Fleets against hands-free phone ban

He concludes: “This is a timely reminder to issue staff with guidance about when to make or take calls and the message has to be that this should only be done when it is considered safe to do so.”

Launched in 2009, TrackCompare.co.uk represents more than 50 tracking and telematics companies across a wide range of technologies, and compares a variety of products.

The company’s online service is backed by a team of fleet consultants, who work with more than 2,000 new fleets every month.

TrackCompare.co.uk assists organisations large and small to identify the most effective tracking and telematics solutions for their operations.

Fleet News view

Hands-free phones have become an important business tool. But research has shown that their use while driving is distracting and ultimately dangerous.

In our view, companies should ban their use and educate drivers on the risks of mobile phone use while behind the wheel. All employees should also be briefed to end calls immediately if the person they have phoned is driving.

We’re sympathetic to the view that a ban in isolation could make a business less competitive. That’s why we believe the Government should make it illegal to ensure there is a level playing field. That way, there can be no winners and no losers if this action takes place.

i use hands free in my vehicle( personal), i press a button to answer or refuse a call, it is not a distraction if you don't allow it to be.
