Thatcham and MIRA form partnership to expand crash testing capability

Thatcham Research has signed an agreement with MIRA to create a full service vehicle safety testing capability for vehicle manufacturers.

Thatcham is the UK’s authorised Euro NCAP test Laboratory and is acknowledged as a centre of excellence for crash testing and collision avoidance research.

Its research programme already provides the basis for many aspects of Euro NCAP’s five-star safety rating system, notably contributing research on Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and other advanced driver assistance systems across the NCAP vehicle assessment process.

The newly-formed partnership with MIRA will now provide vehicle manufacturers with a complete range of vehicle safety testing and engineering consultancy services from an extended UK base in both the Midlands and the South.

Peter Shaw, chief executive at Thatcham, said “Thatcham Research and MIRA together provide a unique skill-set to assist the manufacturers in their fast moving drive for further safety developments.

"This collaboration between two world class, but UK-based organisations, provides a complete service offering of Euro NCAP testing and development to the global car makers.”
