Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges is to entertain guests at this month's Fleet News Awards.

First appearing on the stage at the age of 15, Bridges had never even seen a live stand-up performance before. His interest is said to have been stoked by Frank Skinner’s autobiography and a couple of Peter Kay DVDs.

He rose to public prominence with an outstanding set to rave reviews on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. Appearances on Mock the Week and 8 Out Of 10 Cats followed, alongside a headline slot on Live At The Apollo, with astute observations about his home town of Glasgow.

Sean Lock, who was originally booked for the evening, has had to pull out due to a television commitment.

Back by popular demand, Kate Silverton is hosting the awards. Silverton, news presenter for both current affairs and entertainment programmes, has won plaudits for her reporting from Iraq, and is no stranger to conflict, having covered several of the world’s troubled and beleaguered regions, including reporting from the front line in Afghanistan.
