Fleet operators will gain an insight into critical corporate business and private mileage compliance at next month's ACFO seminar.

The all-day seminar on Friday, May 8, is entitled “Effective Vehicle Choice and Fuel and Mileage Management” and will include a session focused on the importance of fuel and mileage management in keeping fleet-related costs and driver reimbursement charges under control.

So far more than 100 fleet decision-makers have  registered to attend the event, which is being hosted by Jaguar Land Rover at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, and is sponsored by LeasePlan and Barclaycard Fuel+ in association with The Miles Consultancy.

Paul Jackson, managing director, of fuel card and mileage expense management specialist The Miles Consultancy, will lead the session.

It is being held following a recent YouGov survey that suggested more than half (56%) of employees who drive a car for business purposes were unaware of the tax regime for reclaiming business mileage.

Last year inadequate business and private mileage record keeping was claimed to be in the “top 10 risk areas” of employment tax compliance management, by Sharon Gilkes, associate director and head of the London employment tax team at Grant Thornton, amid revelations that an increasing number of companies were being fined for irregularities.

The seminar speaker line-up also includes:

  • Peter Cakebread, chairman of the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association and managing director of Marshall Leasing, who will provide an overview of the latest trends in fleet funding
  • Mike Brazel, specialist consultant (funding and taxation), LeasePlan, who will deliver an insight into company car whole life cost calculations and the numbers that should be included
  • Mark Cartwright, head of vans at the Freight Transport Association, will highlight why whole life costs are critical when selecting vans for fleet operations
  • Dan Rees, senior manager, Deloitte Car Consulting Team, will focus on technical accounting and the use of computer programmes to manage fleet costs
  • Caroline Sandall, ACFO deputy chairman and fleet manager, Barclays Bank, will deliver a real-world view on the practicalities of financial fleet management.
