Telematics helps ArB avoid HMRC private mileage audit fine

ArB (Tree Care Specialists)'s adoption of a Ram Tracking device helps it avoid HMRC fine by keeping accurate private and business mileage records.

The company, which provides services such as tree surgery as well as selling firewood and Christmas trees, had fitted telematics to allow it to track and record real-time fleet data to help ensure it reached customers and suppliers on time.

This technology proved useful following a routine HMRC audit of ArB as it allowed it to provide a thorough and accurate record of business and private mileage.

Every time its managing director Anthony Bethell used his vehicle he could activate it with either a business or personal fob, enabling him to record the type of usage.

Bethell said: “If this essential tool had not been installed, it would have left me reliant on the entire team keeping manual logs of when my vehicles had been used for private mileage.

“Without these automated processes it may have resulted in the business being penalised to the tune of thousands of pounds."
