Europe-wide car sharing provider Drive Now (part of Share Now) had 400,000 rentals in London in the first eight months of 2019.

This number has doubled when compared to the first eight months of 2018, showing a significant increase in car-sharing in the UK capital.

During the same eight-month period, the distance covered by the Share Now customers in the British capital grew from 684,000 miles in 2018 to 1.4 million miles in 2019.

Olivier Reppert, CEO of Share Now, said: "London is an example of how urban mobility is moving away from the private vehicle and towards a very diverse 'ecosystem of mobility'.

"The figures show that free-floating car sharing plays an ever more important role in the everyday mobility behaviour of London’s citizens.

"This development, which we experience in many other European metropolitan areas, will permanently and sustainably change our cities.”

By the end of last month, the number of Share Now users had grown to 40,000, which is 73% more than this time last year.

Its global customer growth grew in that period, too, with a 25% increase, taking its customer base to over 4.2 million.

Car-sharing has been available in London since December 2014, with its fleet consisting of 720 BMW and MINI cars (130 electric).

Its parent company, Share Now, allows its custoemrs to rent a car anywhere and anytime. The company now has over four million members and can be found in 31 major cities across the world, with over 20,000 vehicles combined.

Its impact on mobility was discussed in 2016, and it has seen an increase in its users year-on-year.
