Volkswagen has injected a little more personality and ruggedness into the design of the second-generation Tiguan.

Shown in a number of guises, including a GTE plug-in hybrid concept version, the Tiguan offers better efficiency through reduced weight as well as a more spacious interior.

The minimum boot volume of the new Tiguan is now 615 litres, and when the rear seat backrests are folded, its capacity increases to 1,655 litres.

Engine power outputs range from 115hp to 240hp, although those earmarked for the UK will be confirmed closer to the car’s launch next year.

There is a new four-wheel drive system, while the Tiguan has also been engineered for a maximum towing capacity of 2,500kg.

Available safety systems include front assist with autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian monitoring, lane-keeping assistance and automatic post-collision braking as standard).

Online services include automatic accident notification, online traffic and parking space info as well as vehicle status report.
