9 Skoda Superb

The fourth-generation Skoda Superb estate will be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain with an electric-only range of 62 miles, the manufacturer has revealed.

The model will have a maximum rate of 11kW at AC charging points, while it can also take power on at up to 50kW from DC stations.

This gives a minimum charge time of two-and-a-half hours on an AC charger (0-100%), and just 25 minutes to go from 10-80% capacity at a DC fast charger.

In addition, the Superb will also be available with mild-hybrid technology for the first time.

Klaus Zellmer, chairman of the board of Skoda Auto, said: “The Superb has been the standard-bearer of Skoda’s ICE range for more than 20 years.

“In its fourth generation it will continue to be just that, offering an even more refined, sculptural design, outstanding spaciousness and cutting-edge technology.

“We have reconstructed the plug-in hybrid powertrain from scratch, and it now offers an all-electric range of more than 100km.

“Last but not least, we will continue to offer the Superb as a hatch and estate version, perfectly reflecting our customer focus.”

Boot capacity has grown by 20 litres to 645 for the hatch and by 30 litres to 690 for the estate.

As well as the PHEV powertrain, new Superb will be available with three petrol engines, with power outputs from 150hp to 265hp, and two 2.0 TDI diesels, producing 150hp and 193hp.

The interior features a free-standing infotainment display measuring up to 13inches in size – a first for Superb – while the selector lever has moved to the steering column to allow for a roomier centre console.

The exterior features the new octagonal Skoda grille, the Skoda logo on the bonnet and the front apron’s trim strips.
