Phil Hoskins from City Plumbing Supplies has been recognised as a driving hero in the Microlise Driver of The Year Awards 2020.

The Microlise Driver of the Year HGV Hero Award recognises drivers who have gone above and beyond to respond safely, professionally and with great community spirit when faced with potential human tragedy on our roads.

Hoskins who delivers plumbing and heating products to domestic properties and new build sites in Greater Manchester, witnessed an elderly man falling from his zimmer- frame onto the pavement in February, where he immediately stopped his vehicle and performed life-saving CPR.

He called 999 and waited with the gentleman and his wife until the ambulance arrived to transfer the man to a nearby hospital.

Hoskin’s managers said the incident ‘highlights Hoskin’s willingness to always do the right thing by stepping up and helping others’.

Nadeem Raza, chief executive of Microlise, said: “The Microlise Driver of the Year Awards highlight drivers who act with great courage and presence of mind when faced with challenges on the road.

“Our winner clearly shows how lives can be saved through sheer bravery as well as through experience, knowledge and training.”

Drivers from Waitrose & Partners have won the Extra Mile and HGV Hero awards at the Microlise Driver of The Year Awards 2020 and Hovis won the Microlise Driver Excellence Award for 2020 after telematics data showed it had the best performing drivers.

With telematics-based categories containing an initial eligible pool of more than 210,000 drivers, and nomination-based categories receiving record entries, the 2020 winners are 'leading lights' in the industry, having triumphed after a process of rigorous data analysis, corroboration by employers and assessment by an independent judging panel, says Microlise.
