Scania has introduced a new lightweight truck engine that provides operators with an enhanced payload and reduced fuel consumption.

The 11-litre powertrain is part of Scania's Super engine line-up and sits between its 9- and 13-litre units.

It is 85Kg lighter than the 13-litre engine and up to 7% more fuel efficient than the 9-litre one.

Available in three power options – 350hp (1800Nm), 390hp (2,000Nm) and 430hp (2,200Nm) – the new Super engine has been designed to perform across a wide range of applications, from urban logistics to regional haulage.

Ayyoob Zarmehri, product manager at Scania, said: “This engine opens new possibilities for energy-efficient and cost-effective transport. It’s lighter, leaner and more flexible, yet it still carries the strength and reliability for which Scania is known. “It’s a smart choice for operators who need to balance performance, payload and sustainability in their daily work.”

The Super 11-litre features some key improvements, with up to 85% of its components shared with the Super 13-litre engine. While maintenance intervals are up to 30% longer than its 9-litre counterpart; increasing uptime and reducing overall service costs for operators.

The new engine is promises a smoother, more comfortable driving experience. Scania’s patented turbo dosing system also improves AdBlue usage and further enhances engine efficiency.

Ayyoob added: “The Super 11-litre engine represents the next generation of intelligent transport. It combines the best of Scania’s engineering with the efficiency and adaptability that today’s operators demand.

“Whether in the city or out on longer routes, this engine is built to perform – mile-after-mile.”

In the UK, the new compact, lightweight and powerful new Super 11-litre engine is expected to power a range of different vehicles, from tippers, bulk transport and refuse collection trucks, to hook lifts, recovery trucks and fire engines, and general volume goods transport. The Super 11-litre engine will be available for purchase from June 2025.
