Telent has cut injury-related incidents amongst its fleet from 4% to 2% of total incidents reported through its partnership with road safety expert, TTC.
It has also achieved a 42% reduction in licence points per licence check and speeding endorsements have declined by almost a third (31%).
While enhancing safety remains top priority, at fault third-party insurance costs have been slashed by 52% in the past three years too.
Telent runs an 1,800-strong mixed fleet including professional drivers and grey fleet drivers with cars, vans and trucks.
It has moved from standard licence checks to TTC’s end-to-end driver risk management solution, Continuum.
This has resulted in Telent now boasting a driving licence check compliance rate of 99.4%, meaning its business drivers all have a valid automated licence check through TTC within the past six months.
Since partnering with TTC, Telent has also implemented several key safety initiatives focused on reducing the risk of speed and improving defensive driving techniques to reduce road risk and severity of incidents.
Working with TTC and using its risk management platform has enabled Telent to identify knowledge gaps and areas which require training.
Miranda Faulconbridge, head of driver safety at Telent, explained: “As a business with so many different facets and a diverse mobile workforce, we always strive to deliver a consistent, unified driver safety message across the company, with continuous improvement initiatives, as well as instilling safe driving as a core value that every employee actively takes responsibility for.
“Working with TTC has enabled us to vastly improve safety and compliance.”
Faulconbridge says the business now understand its drivers better.
“We always know who is exposed to risk and can therefore provide the relevant training,” she added. “The figures speak for themselves with our collision history risk score dropping by 38%, and we’ve reduced our total annual severe driving events per million business miles by 51%.
“What’s really pleasing is there has been an overwhelmingly positive response from our drivers to all the training initiatives.”
TTC and Telent are also working in collaboration to manage road risk for young and inexperienced drivers, and electric vehicle (EV) drivers who are unfamiliar with these vehicles.
By identifying young drivers, or inexperienced drivers through licence checks and the risks they present, Telent has the ability to offer tailored training and interventions to mitigate risk.
David Marsh, CEO of TTC, said: “It’s incredibly rewarding to know that through our collaboration with Telent, we’re not only supporting regulatory compliance, but more importantly, actively reducing the risk of road incidents for its drivers.
“By proactively identifying potential issues and delivering timely interventions, we help ensure Telent’s drivers, who underpin its daily operations, remain safe and supported.
“With fewer fleet incidents, Telent is even better positioned to deliver the critical services its clients in the transport, public sector and emergency services sectors depend on.”
