Telford Centre is partnering with electric vehicle (EV) charging network, BeEV to create a new EV charging hub – the largest of its kind in Shropshire.

EV drivers will have access to 18 ultra-fast 300kW chargers, each capable of delivering up to 325 miles of range in 20 minutes (if the car allows).

The centre manager at Telford Centre, Glynn Morrow, said: “We’re very pleased to be able to offer visitors to Telford Centre the ability to also charge their electric vehicles while they visit us to shop, dine or enjoy our leisure offering. We’re sure the facility will be very popular with customers”.

Retailers in the shopping centre are set to benefit from this development, with a study indicating that consumer spending increases from £36 per visit to £80 per visit after the installation of EV chargers.

BeEV has invested £1 million into the project, marking a significant step in the development and expansion of EV infrastructure in Telford – the region having previously been identified as having one of the lowest levels of EV adoption in the UK.

Asif Ghafoor, BeEV’s CEO, said: “This £1m investment is a bold statement of our ambition to make ultra-fast, convenient charging accessible to everyone, right where they live, work, and shop. We’re proud to be leading the charge towards a cleaner, greener future.”

This venture follows a £20m investment from BeEV to enable the installation of more than 200 ultra-rapid EV charging bays across 22 retail and leisure sites across the UK.

“It’s not just about building charging points,” said Ghafoor.

“It’s about delivering reliable, future-proof infrastructure that keeps pace with the rapidly growing EV market.”
