Vauxhall has unveiled the new Frontera, which will join its line-up between the Mokka and Grandland.

It's expected to go on sale in the summer, marking the return of the Frontera name that was originally used on an SUV in the 90s.

The new Frontera will replace the Vauxhall Crossland. It will be offered with petrol-hybrid and electric powertrains.

James Taylor, managing director, Vauxhall, said: “With its combination of rugged design, spaciousness, clever solutions and efficient powertrains, our new Vauxhall Frontera will appeal to a wide range of customers who want to stand out from the crowd. It is ideally suited to the urban and sub-urban environment with a fully electric version available from launch.”

The Frontera features Vauxhall's signature Visor grille, which integrates with the front headlights. It has a boxy appearance which benefits interior space.

Vauxhall said the new model offers more than 460 litres of luggage space in the boot – with the seats folded down, the capacity increases to up to 1,600 litres.

The car's interior features Pure Panel, like the Astra. This combines the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen into one panoramic panel.

Vauxhall has not detailed the pricing or powertrain specifications for the new Frontera yet.
