Vauxhall has confirmed a new performance-focused version of the Mokka Electric will join its line-up under the 'GSe' sub-brand.

To date, the GSe moniker has only been used on sporty plug-in hybrids but will now be part of Vauxhall's electric range.

The Mokka GSe has almost double the power of the current Mokka Electric, with 280PS from it's front-mounted motor.

A 54kWh battery is used, but Vauxhall is yet to disclose the car's range.

From a standing start it can reach 62mph in just 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 124mph.

The power increase is supported by a number of modifications to the Mokka's chassis. The front brakes are from performance braking experts, Alcon, and are 380mm in diameter with four-piston calipers. Uprated suspension, with new shock absorbers, provides a 10mm reduction in ride height. There is also a Torsen multi-plate limited-slip differential.

Pricing and on sale date are yet to be confirmed.
