Volkswagen’s flagship electric car – the ID 7 – is now available to order, with prices starting at £51,550.

It is the brand’s first all-electric upper mid-sized car and is currently available in Pro Match trim.

A 77kWh battery provides a range of up to 383 miles (WLTP) and DC charging at up to 175kW.

A larger battery version due to arrive later this year that will be able to charge at 200kW and is expected to have a range of about 430 miles.

The ID 7 is powered by a 286PS motor, which is the most powerful and highest-torque motor on a Volkswagen ID model so far.

The Match trim comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen, 360-degree camera system, keyless entry, LED Matrix headlights and heated front seats with a massage function.

Rod McLeord, director of Volkswagen UK, said: “We are really excited to introduce the ID 7 to our customers.

“We know lots of people – including many business drivers – have been eagerly awaiting its arrival.”

Volkswagen says interior temperature will be optimised using smart air conditioning, which the car initiates automatically as the driver approaches with the key.

Other technologies include a panoramic sunroof with smart glass which can be switched between opaque and transparent by either touch or voice control.

The ID 7 is also equipped with a head-up display and a new 15-inch infotainment operating and display concept, complete with assignable favourites buttons and – in response to feedback from customers – illuminated sliders to control cabin temperature.

An estate version, known as the ID 7 Tourer, is also available.
