People carriers need to fulfil two main roles as company cars.

For some drivers they are chosen because their extra versatility allows them to be used an an all-purpose family vehicle outside of work, while in other cases their ability to transport more people and luggage than a typical car makes them a popular choice for taxi, private hire and chauffeur fleets.

While some people carriers based on lower-medium cars can carry seven people, full size people carriers are more effective all-rounders.

High build quality, practical sliding rear passenger doors and excellent refinement are among some of its virtues, while the diesel engine offers a good balance of performance and fuel economy.

Selecting the DSG automatic with the diesel engine makes the Alhambra a more relaxing car to drive in urban environments, but it doesn’t come with a high CO₂ and fuel consumption penalty as some automatic transmissions do.

 

Judges’ comments

This is a full-size people carrier that offers a good-size boot even with all seven seats in use. The seats are easy to fold flat, adding to the car’s versatility, while good performance, competitive costs and low CO₂ emissions combine to make the perfect package.
