Review

The introduction of the third-generation Citroen Berlingo marked a step-change for Stellantis in 2019. It brought together all the group’s commercial vehicle brands with one shared platform.

Electric powertrains came in 2021, giving the Berlingo, along with its stablemates, a broad offer in the compact van segment.

Following a facelift, last year, the Berlingo received a refreshed front end and updated technology. These changes were also applied to the Fiat Doblo, Peugeot Partner, and Vauxhall Combo.

Citroen offers a straightforward model line-up with the choice of diesel or electric powertrains, short or long wheelbase lengths and three trim levels.

For our long-term test we’ve opted for the diesel model. While that might seem alien in 2025, a quick glance at the latest sales figures shows that only 8% of new vans registered this year were electric. So clearly plenty of fleets and buyers and still opting for diesel vans.

We also wanted a crew van, rather than a standard panel, which only comes in the longer of the two available lengths.

To keep costs down, we opted for entry-level Enterprise trim and swerved the optional automatic transmission (which also comes with a 30PS power boost, opting for the base 100PS manual.

While the Enterprise specification is generous, it only comes with a smartphone dock in lieu of a proper infotainment system. So, Citroen’s My Citroën Drive Plus system was added for £750. This includes a 10-inch touchscreen, sat-nav, DAB radio, Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple Carplay.

The van has a utilitarian look with steel wheels and plastic bumpers, which continues inside with plastic floor coverings.

There are two seats upfront and clever folding rear bench that provides seating for three more in the rear. Two sliding side doors are fitted, along with rear ‘barn’ style doors.

For a total of £24,495 (CV OTR), our Berlingo comes with air conditioning, remote locking, electric front windows, automatic headlights with high beam assist and a six-way adjustable driver’s seat.

We were disappointed that an alarm only comes as a £225 option on the Enterprise version, but as we don’t plan on storing any valuables in the van it wasn’t added.
