Our Astra’s sporty looks – including bodykit and lowered suspension – have forced a change of habits.

To get to my usual parking spot I have to drive up a fairly severe slope, but the modest ground clearance of the Astra means a plastic skirt under the front bumper scrapes on the incline.

However, this is no great hardship and the Astra has otherwise impressed, with a pleasing feel of solidity and plenty of urge from the 1.6 CDTi engine.
