VOLKSWAGEN has launched a genuine multi-purpose vehicle in the shape of its new Multivan which includes rear conference seating and a fold-out double bed. The Multivan is based on the VW Caravelle, seats seven people, boasts a fold-up table with nearby 12V power point and fluorescent light above, and has ample luggage space behind the third row of seats.

The cabin carpet can be removed revealing an easy-to-clean plastic floor, if the Multivan is used in muddy conditions, and a set of window blinds provide privacy for overnight stays. Two diesel engines are available, a normally aspirated 2.4 SD, and a 102 bhp 2.5 TDI, and standard equipment includes front electric windows, electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors, and a Sony radio-cassette.

Options include two different air conditioning systems, electric cab sunroof, cruise control and a towbar. The VW Multivan 2.4 SD automatic costs £22,230.63 on-the-road, and the 2.5 TDI costs £22,567.85.
