THE 30-strong fleet operations team at Lyons Cakes is being made redundant as the company merges with Manor Bakeries following its sale to Rank Hovis Macdougal 18-months ago. The existing Lyons fleet is to be run by the Manor Bakeries fleet team, giving the company a car fleet of around 200 vehicles, in addition to a range of commercial vehicles.

Some members of the Lyons team, which is led by award-winning national fleet manager Richard Bevan, have already been made redundant. The rest will finish work by the end of April.

The Lyons team was made up of Bevan, three regional field engineers, three vehicle inspectors and two garages with around 20 staff between them. One workshop has already closed and the second is due to shut in March. The Lyons fleet is also being cut down in preparation for the move. It currently has 32 cars and around 110 commercial vehicles.
