Police test armed response Galaxy

A FORD Galaxy equipped as an armed response vehicle has been on test with a number of UK police forces. Prepared by Ford Special Vehicle Preparations in conjunction with Ford Special Vehicle Operations, the ARV Galaxy is designed to provide the rapid response capability needed for ARV patrols.

Ford SVP has modified the suspension of the Galaxy with uprated shock absorbers and altered springs, while 16-inch alloy wheels with seven-inch-rim widths and 225x55 tyres have enhanced handling and on-road performance. Brakes have also been uprated.

In the past ARV operations have been hindered by equipment being carried in car boots but the people-carrier style enables the team to carry all specialist equipment within immediate reach. Other changes to the 2.8 litre V6 engined Galaxy include improved lighting and additional strobe lights and a rack in the rear of the vehicle to carry additional equipment.
