THE first fleet managers to win places on the RAC Scholarship Awards Scheme, run in conjunction with the Institute of Car Fleet Management, will be revealed at the Fleet Motor Show. From a competitive field of almost 50, later short-listed to nine final qualifiers, four fleet managers from across the country have been awarded places.

The 1998-99 RAC Scholarship Awards Scheme is part of a £50,000 training initiative designed to point the way to an expansion, elevation and overhaul of the traditional role of the fleet manager in business. Training for the four - three men and a woman - starts this summer and covers all existing elements of the ICFM Diploma in Car Fleet Management. Supplementary extras, sourced by the RAC, focus on personal development and communication skills, including journey-related issue management, mobility and developing vehicle traffic and travel technologies.
