SAAB has unveiled the new 9-5 Aero as its sporting flagship for the saloon and estate ranges. Due to go on sale in the UK in late September, the Aero will make its public debut earlier that month at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Saab's 2.3-litre turbo engine has again been improved to produce 230bhp, and deliver 265lb-ft of torque from 1,900rpm. Available in either manual or automatic the Aero's specification includes 17in alloy wheels, sculptured side sill covers, a small front spoiler and rear bumper extension. The sporting looks are accompanied by more powerful brakes and lowered, stiffened suspension. Prices are expected to be about £29,000 for the Aero saloon and £30,000 for the estate.
